Life of Andy Jones
On a cold winter morning, January 29, 1946 in Bolivar County, Duncan, Mississippi, a healthy baby boy, Andy Jones, was born to the parents of Lee Bertha Sanders Jones and Willie Jones, Sr.
Andy accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at the First Baptist Church in Duncan, Mississippi under the leadership of the late Pastor Levi Thomas (who was his cousin). After moving to Clarksdale, Mississippi he joined the Mt. Carmel Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Lacy Harrell, where he served as a faithful Usher until his health declined.
Andy was educated in the Bolivar County Public School System.
Andy at a young age worked with his father for the Ernest L. McMurchy Family. After his father’s death he became the cook for the McMurchy family and helped to raise Lynn and Leslie McMurchy. Later in life he moved to Clarksdale where he began working for the City of Clarksdale for a number of years then he moved to the Public Works Department Lawn and Garden Division under Mrs. Neil Smith where he worked for more than 20 years before retiring because of health issues. He spent the last 15 years of his life reminiscing of his younger years.
Andy was united in holy matrimony to Lillie Mae Ross, this union was blessed with, Andy Jones, Jr., Willie Jones and Barbara Jones. Later in life he met and on June 11, 2003 he married Ollie Mae Bane, this union blessed him to become step father to, Sharon Bane, Angela Bane and Tony Bane.
Andy was preceded in death by his parents, Lee Bertha and Willie Jones; his wives, Lillie Mae Jones and Ollie Mae Jones; his siblings, Flora B. Todd, Lillie B. Ingram, Corneal Curtis, Abe Sanders, grandsons, DexTerrian and Dexzarrious Jones; step-daughter, Angela Bane; godsons/nephews, Jessie Eugene Brown and Jason Earl Brown; many other relatives and friends.
In the early morning hours of Monday, June 7, 2021 at the Delta Health Northwest Regional Hospital in Clarksdale, Mississippi, Andy Jones heard and surrendered to the Masters Call.
Visitation will be at Royal Funeral Home from 1:00 PM - 5:00 PM Friday June 10, 2021. The Celebration of Life will be Saturday, 11:00 AM at Royal Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Union Grove Church Cemetery, Duncan, MS. Rev. Lacy Harrell will be officiating.
Andy leaves to cherish his memories his children, Andy Jones Jr., Willie Jones, and Christopher Davis all of Duncan, MS; Tonzanskia Reddics of Jacksonville, FL; Barbara Jones of Memphis,- TN; step children, Sharon Bane and Tony Bane both of Clarksdale, MS; a brother, Tommy Lee Jones of Chicago, IL; Caregivers/Sisters, Lanita F. (Joe) Davis and Beverly Ford Davis both of Clarksdale, MS; 2 step grandchildren he helped raise, Altricia Bane and Marquez Bane; several grandchildren, step grandchildren & step great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in – laws, Mt. Carmel Church Family and friends.
Andy was a jolly guy who loved to laugh and put a smile on others face. He always had something funny to say or do. He loved his family and friends and always tried to lend a helping hand. Working and helping provide for the many kids in his life, gave him so much joy.
