Augustine Mays, age 70, of Falcon, Mississippi, passed away naturally on July 16th, 2025.
Born on January 21st, 1955, Augustine was the beloved daughter of the late Franklin L. Mays Sr. and Leverne Mays. She was one of 12 siblings, and although preceded in death by her sisters Mary (James) Taper and Doris (James) Mays, she remained deeply connected to her surviving brothers and sisters throughout her life.
A devoted mother, Augustine raised five children with strength, grace, and unwavering love. Her greatest joy was her family, and her legacy lives on through her many grandchildren, who brought light and laughter to her days.
Augustine was known for her warm heart, and the way she made everyone feel seen and loved in her presence. She was sharp as a tack, and could make you laugh, check you with grace, and love you all in the same breath. Whether cooking a holiday meal, offering a listening ear, or sharing her wisdom, she had a way of making life a little better for those around her. Her arms and her heart were always open, and her home overflowed with laughter, warmth, and the joyful voices of family and friends.
She leaves behind her children: Laverne (Tom) Jackson, Rayterres (Deondra) Mays, Yolanda Mays, Cathy Mays, and Ranail (Margaret) Mays. Her surviving siblings John Roland, Abraham (Clara) Mays, Christine Mays, Franklin (Valarie) Mays, Maudie (Gary) Stanford, Alvin Mays, Ray Mays, Kenny Mays, Abe (Naomi) Mays, and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will miss her dearly.
A celebration of Augustine’s life will be held on August 9, 2025 at Maddison S. Palmer High School Gymnasium, with services beginning at 11am. Her remains will be dedicated to and left with her beloved children.
Though our hearts are heavy, we find peace in knowing that she is reunited with her parents, Special Friend John (Bubba) Smith, and her sisters in eternal rest. Her love will continue to guide us, and her memory will live on in each of us forever.
