Berdie Hill

Berdie Hill, 73, of Indiapolis, IN passed away Tuesday November 12, 2019 in Indianapolis, IN.  Berdie was born September 25, 1946 in Stovall, MS.  She was the second child of seven born to the late Idella Hill.

Berdie confessed a hope in Christ at an early age and joined Oakridge Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. R.H. Hendrick.  Berdie began her early education at Oakridge Elementary, McClound Jr. High and Aggie Agricultural High School.  After graduating from Coahoma, she attended Delta State University where she received her B.A. Degree. She later attended Mississippi Valley State College and received her certification in Reading.  She began her teaching career in Clarksdale at J.W. Elementary School as a kindergarten teacher.  A year later, she moved up with her class and taught those same students in first grade.  Teaching first grade became her passion. Although she retired from teaching at Clarksdale Municipal School District, she did not retire from teaching.  She began a new chapter in teaching when she relocated to Indianpolis, IN at Building Blocks Academy where she remain until her death.

Visitation will be Friday November 22, 2019 from 1:00 PM - 5:00 PM at Royal Funeral Home.  The Celebration of Life will be Saturday November 23, 2019, 12:00 PM at Oakridge Baptist Church, 6253 Oakhurst Stovall Road, Clarksdale, MS 38614.  The burial will follow at Heavenly Rest Cemetery, Lyon, MS.  

Berdie leaves her family to continue a journey of faith and hope; three brothers, Kevin Hill, Chicago, IL; Howard Hill and Johnny Hill, Clarksdale, MS; two sisters: Juanita Eley and Thelma Hill, Clarksdale, MS, a plethora of nieces, nephews, co-workers, members of New Hope M.B. Church, other family members and friends.
