Bertha Mae White

Bertha Mae White was born May 26, 1939 to TJ and Irene Smiley. She was the 2nd out of 11 children. God sent his angels to bring Bertha Mae home on Thursday, June 27, 2024 in Clarksdale, MS. She is preceded in death by her parents and her late husband, Mr. Roosevelt White whom she married in November of 1971, sister Bennie Mae Smiley,

Bertha confessed to Christ at an early age at New Bethel in Rich, MS. Later she moved to New Hope Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Skipper and remained a faithful member at New Hope until her death. She served as the President of the Usher Board until her health failed.

Bertha attended Rich Elementary School, Jonestown Elementary School and Coahoma Agriculture High School.

Bertha worked as a butcher for more than 30 years at various stores in Jonestown.

Visitation will be held Friday July 5, 2024 from 4:30 PM - 6:30 PM at Royal Funeral Home.  The Celebration of Life will be Saturday July 6, 2024, 11:00 AM, at New Hope MB Church, Jonestown, MS.  Rev. Emmanuel Lackey will be officiating.  Burial will follow at PawPaw Cemetery.

White-Gamble; a bonus daughter Laura Ann (Roy) Chatman; 3 sisters: Ruthie Mae Smiley of Memphis, TN, Julia (Claude) Smiley Green of Horn Lake, MS and Corene (Arthur) Smiley-Sams; 6 brothers TJ Smiley and J C (Ethel) Smiley of Horn Lake, MS, JB (Jackie) Smiley of Memphis, TN, Essie Smiley of Chicago, IL, Sammie (Diane) Smiley of Marks, MS, and Willie B. Smiley of Lambert, MS; a godson Nathan Stokes III; 3 grandchildren: Aramis (Shaquanna) Robinson of Olive Branch, MS, Alanis Robinson of Clarksdale, MS and Tiffany Chatman of Little Rock, AR; 4 bonus grandchildren: Desere, Dvoryeaux, Vivian and Steve Jr.; 17 bonus great grandchildren.
