Courtney Correen Skipper was born on November 7, 1977, in Oxford, Mississippi, to the late Robert Lee Skipper and Patricia Ann McClinton Skipper. She gave her life to Christ at an early age and was baptized by Rev. Matthews at Chapel Hill Missionary Baptist Church. She was a member of the 1996 class of Clarksdale High School and was a career educator.
Courtney graduated from Mississippi Valley State University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology and Master of Arts in Teaching. After a few years of teaching, she went on to earn an Educational Specialist Degree from the University of Mississippi. She dedicated 16 years of teaching in classrooms throughout the delta and at the time of her passing was an Advisor for Employee Services at Memphis Shelby County School District in Memphis, Tennessee. She had also completed all coursework toward her doctorate in Education and was a graduate of the National Institute for School leaders. She was an Educational Consultant with Green Educational Services and Amplify Curriculum Company. She attended Millsaps’ Principal’s Institute, where she gained skills pertaining to coaching, mentoring, and team building. That same year, she travelled to the Galapagos Islands, as a Global Rural Trust Fellow to study ecosystems to enrich science instruction.
Visitation will be Friday April 11, 2025 from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM at Royal Funeral Home. The Celebration of Life will be Saturday April 12, 2025, 11:00 AM, at Chapel Hill M.B. Church. Burial will follow at McLaurin Memorial Gardens. Pastor Kenneth Gooden will be officiating.
Left to mourn are her brothers, Anthony and Robert Skipper and their significant others, her sister, Bridney Skipper-Johnson and her significant other, her children, Ahmya Skipper, Ashton Maxwell, Debria Brooks and Lyn Brooks, and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
