Remembering the Life

“A Time to be Born”

Dorothy Jean (Dot)Woods  was born June 23, 1959 in Bolivar County, Mississippi to Nettie Weatherspoon and Dan Reggans.

A Time to accept Christ: Dorothy accepted Christ at an early age. She was a faithful member  and was baptized at Mt Pleasant M.B Church. She loved to sing with the choir.  She joined New Mt. Zion in Dallas.  She later moved her membership to Northeast Bible Church in Plano TX under the leadership of Pastor Bob Rice.

A Time to Educate:

Dorothy graduated from Aggie High School in 1977 and Coahoma Jr. College with an associate degree in 1979.

The Legacy of Life:

After college graduation, she moved to Dallas, TX with the love of her life Roy.  She worked for Baylor Medical Center for several years.  She had to resign due to her failing health over the last 25 years which entailed: She had a Heart Transplant, 2 hip replacements, and 2 kidney Transplants donated by Sister Doris Weatherspoon in 2007 and Brother Patrick Weatherspoon in 2016. Dot was a fighter through all of her obstacles.  She was one of the longest heart transplant survivors.

Dorothy and Roy was married on February 4, 1978 in Clarksdale, MS. Dorothy was a Loving Wife, an Awesome Mother and a Fantastic Grandma.  They would have been celebrating their 44th Year Anniversary on February 4, 2022.

Visitation will be Thursday, February 10, 2022 from 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM at Royal Funeral Home.  The Celebration of Life will be Friday February 11, 2022, 2:00 PM, at Union Grove MB Church.  Burial will follow at Heavenly Rest Cemetery.  Rev. E.L. Martin will be officiating.  Rev. L.C. Tyler, II is pastor.   

Dorothy was preceded in glory by her mother and father, Nettie Weatherspoon and Dan Reggan, one sister Alice Weatherspoon, four brothers; Willie “Pete” Weatherspoon, Ron Reggans, Andrew Reggans Sr., Nelson Weatherspoon; one grandson, DJ Woods, Grandmother in law, Willie Oliver, Brother in law, Andre Woods, Father in law, D.C. Woods, Sr., Brother in Law, D. C. Woods, Jr.

Dorothy leaves to cherish her loving memories: Her loving husband and soulmate of 44 years Roy Woods; one son; Jamaal Woods,three grandchildren; Jakeem Woods, A’Niya Woods, and Chloe Sparks. Seven Brothers: Anthony (Jacqueline) Weatherspoon-Clarksdale, MS,  Darrell Weatherspoon-Clarksdale, MS, Terrial Weatherspoon-Galveston, TX, Patrick Weatherspoon-Clarksdale, MS, Derick Weatherspoon-Deer Park, TX, Dwight (Theresa) Starks of Clarksdale, MS, Larry Rezzer of Denton, TX.  Three Sister in Laws; Linda (Roderick) Yeldell of Plano, TX, Carolyn (Rev. E. L.) Martin of Clarksdale, Deborah Gardener of  Coahoma, MS. Two Brother in laws; Carl Woods of Clarksdale, MS, Dwayne Woods of Dallas, TX and A host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, In-laws and a host of other relatives and friends.
