Eddie Boyd Thomas

Eddie "Boyd" Thomas (as he was affectionately called) was welcomed home by his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Friday evening, May 29, 2026. Eddie was born in Rena Lara, MS, on December 6, 1961, to the late Henry and Savannah Thomas.

At an early age, Eddie confessed his faith in Jesus Christ and was baptized by Rev. A.C. Alexander at Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church in Reno, Mississippi. He later joined the congregation of Lamb of God Full Gospel Church in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Eddie was a graduate of Coahoma County High School. As a teenager, he was known as a true "go-getter." Every Saturday morning, he could be found knocking on doors throughout the community looking for work. He often said, "A man should always work."

Eddie later relocated to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where he obtained his Commercial Driver's License (CDL). He spent more than 30 years traveling the highways of America as an over-the-road truck driver, enduring both extreme heat and harsh winter conditions. The demands of his profession eventually took a toll on his health. Years of sitting for extended periods contributed to circulation problems that resulted in the amputation of his left leg above the knee in 2023.

After retiring from truck driving in 2023, Eddie returned to what he lovingly called his "happy place" and "forever home" in Memphis, Tennessee. In 2024, he relocated there permanently. As his health gradually declined, multiple complications ultimately contributed to his untimely passing.

Visitation will be Saturday, June 5, 2026 at Royal Funeral Home from 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM.  The funeral service will follow at 11:00 AM.  Burial will be at Heavenly Rest Cemetery.  Rev. Dr. Elton Hymon will be officiating.  

Eddie was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Gloria Thomas; cight brothers - Otis Wilson, Richard Wilson, Jerry Murray, Henry Thomas, Jr., John Wilson, Jeff Wilson, J.W. Thomas, and John "Duke" Thomas; and two sisters, Mary Louise Thomas and Elizabeth (Myrtis) Broughton.

Cherishing his memory are his three children: Keisha Thomas of San Antonio, Texas; Eddie Thomas, Jr.; and Montreal Thomas of Memphis, Tennessee.

He also leaves behind nine beloved grandchildren: Tavon Davis, Leonard Wilkes, Jr., Emoni Thomas, Eniya' Thomas, Madalyn Moria Somerville, Kingston Markel Somerville, Miracle Ja'Nac Somerville, Zion Griffin, and Skylar Thomas.

Eddie is also survived by two brothers: Dunn (Everdean) Wilson of Hom Lake, Mississippi, and Clayton Thomas of Memphis, Tennessee.

In addition, he leaves to cherish his memory six sisters: Myrths Wilson of Memphis Tennessee; Carric Wilson of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; Nancy Julius) Williams of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; Rosie Crawford of Memphis, Tennessee; Bernadine (Lonnic) McDonald of Columbia, South Carolina; and Henrietta (Jimmy) Clark of Clarksville, Tennessee.

Eddie will be deeply missed by a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends whose lives were touched by his kindness, wisdom, and enduring love.
