Eligah “Nig” Hawkins, Jr., was born May 15, 1956, to Elijah Hawkins, Sr. and Margaret Hale Hawkins in Farrell, MS. He was one (1) of ten (10) children. In his youth, Elijah attended Sherard Elementary School in Sherard, MS and Later, Coahoma Agricultural High School.
Eligah confessed a hope in Christ at an early age at Zion Traveler M.B. Church. He later rededicated his life to Christ under the leadership of his mentor and friend Pastor Lorenzo Windless. He remained a faithful member until his death.
Eligah left his earthly body surrounded by his family on November 7, 2019 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Southaven, MS at 5:15p.m. He is preceded in death by his Father Elijah Hawkins, Sr., Mother Margaret Hale Hawkins, Brother Alfred” Ajax” Hawkins, Sister Gladys Hawkins Smith.
Visitation will be Friday November 15, 2019 from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Royal Funeral Home. The Celebration of Life will be held at Saturday November 16, 2019, 12:00 PM at Beautiful Zion M.B. Church in Friars Point, MS with the Rev. Lorenzo Windless of Zion Travelers MB Church, Farrell, MS officiating. Burial will follow at Zion Travelers MB Church, Farrell, MS.
Eligah leaves to cherish his memories: a daughter, Melanie Hampton of Chicago, IL and two grandchildren, Tristan Hampton of Chicago, IL & Aleisha Hawkins of Horn Lake, MS; four sisters (4), Bobbie Hawkins and Betty Hawkins of Clarksdale, MS, Katie (Larry) Johnson of Farrell, MS, Tammie (Deon) Elmore of Friars Point, MS, and Anita Jones of Cleveland, MS; four brothers (4), Johnny B. Hawkins, Sr. of Farrell, MS, James (Sherry) Hawkins, Sr of Horn Lake, MS and Adrian (Timikia) Hawkins of Clarksdale, MS, and Seneca Barnes of Kansas City, KS; nieces and nephews he loved as his own; Katorra, Shaharri, Shalola, Yolunda, Kateria, Tiffany, Jastini, Tamiya, Rickendria, Jo’Wani, Melanie, Jennifer, Johnny B Jr., Kenyardis, Corie, Keeven, Adrian Jr., Deon Jr., James Jr., Johnny Jr.; uncles, James(Patricia) Hawkins, Sr and Leroy Hawkins of Memphis, TN, Eddie Hale, Richard Hale, and Jessie Hale of Chicago, IL, Elijah Hale of Clarksdale, MS, James(Diane) Hale of Los Angeles, CA; aunts Louise Johnson of Lyon, MS, and Claretha Russell of Gulfport, MS and Pearline Hale of Chicago, IL; 29 great nieces and nephews and a host of special friends, cousins, friends and other family members who loved him dearly.
