Emma Lou Jones

Emma Lou Jones departed this life on September 6, 2022 at Methodist South Hospital in Memphis, TN. She was born on June 15, 1951 in Mayersville, MS to the parents of Henry B. Jones and Christine Walker Jones.  She attended public school in Clarksdale, MS.  At an early age she received Christ at Chapel Hill Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. John Matthews. 

She later moved to Chicago, IL and worked for the Chicago Board of Education.  She was also a loving caregiver and caretaker.

After returning to Memphis, TN she worked at Kik Customer Products until she retired.  She later joined Boulevard Church of Christ under the leadership of Pastor Williams Jones on Elvis Presley Boulevard in Memphis, TN.

She was a woman of fashion, style, funny, witty, loving, caring, giving, and always making others laugh.

Although Emma Lou was her birth name, she invented the name “Kool Lou.”  She would bring life and joy to everyone that met her.  She would make up jokes and have the entire room laughing. She kept it real in her verbal communications about herself and others.

She loved everybody.  She was so funny and “KOOL” until a bird would even laugh at her.  Her heart was “KOOL.”  Her smile was “KOOL.”  Her personality was “KOOL.”  Her style was “KOOL.”  SHE WAS “KOOL.” (Emma Jones)

The family will have a visitation Friday September 16, 2022 from 10:00 AM - 12:00 Noon at Royal Funeral Home.  

As we remember “KOOL LOU”, let’s also remember her parents who preceded her in death, Henry B. Jones and Christine Walker Jones; four sisters Dianne Jones, Lee Esther Jones-Mullins, Estelle Jones, and Mildred Jones; her lifelong partner Tyrone Gray.

Emma leaves to cherish her memory four sisters Helen Jones of Chicago, IL., Frankie Jones of Clarksdale, MS, Alberta “Super Soul” (Eliaha) Jones-Wiggins of Memphis, TN, and Brenda Jones, also of Clarksdale, MS; three brothers Percy Rivers of Chicago, IL, Michael Jones of Memphis, TN, and Zachary Jones of Clarksdale, MS; a very special young man and nephew Brenden “Boo” Jones; a host of special nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends, the Jolly Block Club, Jennifer Hayes, Mrs. Marie Davis, and others in the Lakeview Community in Memphis, TN.
