Obituary

George David Gaston Sr, affectionately called Gimmie Dale by his mother, was born on July 15, 1949 to the late Henry and Bernice Gaston in Webb, MS. His son Gimmie Dale Gaston; siblings, Willie Dean, H.B, Henrine, Wavor, Ivory, Earlean, and Milton preceded him in death.

George accepted christ at an early age at St. Mark M.B. Church in Webb, MS. He attended West District School in Sumner, MS and Higgins High School in Clarksdale, MS. He got his GED while in the military. He was a member of the U. S. Army, where he served in the Vietnam War as a Communications Specialist from August 5, 1969 to August 8, 1971.

As a youngster, he started driving at the tender age of 9 years old and got his first ticket at age 9. He left home at 14 years old with his brother Ivory whom was 15 to pick oranges in Florida. He stayed 1 week, played sick, and came home. At the age of 15, along with his brother Ivory,  he drove the school bus for Tallahatchie County School system.

As an adult, he was employed in a factory and with the Joliet Prison system in Joliet, IL, as well as the Mississippi State Penitentiary in Sunflower County, MS.  Aftwards, he owned two businesses, an aluminum can business, and a roofing company. He had many talents, as well as being a poet. In the latter part of his life he was a masonry until his health failed.

George had a compassionate heart for his family and the Page Street family even until his death. George joined the First Apostolic Church in 2004 and was faithful even when transportation was not available.

On November 11, 1967 he was united in holy matrimony to Atlean Carter Gaston whom he met when they were eight years old. They were married for 54 years.

On Sunday, August 21, 2022, George moved to his earthly life to begin his spiritual life with christ.

He leaves to carry on his legacy, his loving wife; Atlean Gaston, children; Mary Jean Huggins, George David  (Terri) Gaston Jr., George David (Ramona) Thomas, Gregory Dole(Shartique) Gaston, and a daughter in law Katrina Mullins Gaston; Siblings, Joe (Janice) Gaston, Brenda (Hardy) Morris, Valorie (Tony) Albright, Betty Gaston, Bertha Thurman, and Spencer Hoskins, 17 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, 1 sister in law, 1 brother in law, two aunts, one uncle, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Visitation will be at Royal Funeral Home Friday August 26, 2012 from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM.  The Celebration of Life will be Saturday August 27, 2022, 12:00  Noon at First Apostolic Church, 474 Florida Ave., Clarksdale, MS 38614.  Burial will follow at McLaurin Memorial Gardens.
