James Edward Smith was born on April 29, 1962 to the late Bertha Jones Smith and Willie Smith in Hillhouse, MS. James excepted Christ at an early age at Shiloh MB Church in Bobo, MS.
James departed his earthly life on May 24, 2025. James was a good person, so full of life and laughter. He enjoyed making people happy, spending time with family & Friends, caring and showing concern for others. He will be missed dearly. He received his education from the Coahoma County School District. In 1979, he met Ms. Belinda Banks and they were in a relationship together for 25 years.
To this union they had 3 children, 2 daughters, Monica Banks who preceded him in death and Tesonia Banks of Wichita Falls, TX, and 1 son, Demetrius Banks of Clarksdale, MS. Many years later James ad 2 other daughters Tara & Rozena Thomas of Texas; 2 grandsons Teshun Robinson and Montrell Banks, both of Clarksdale, MS. James had 6 sisters, Bobbie Jean Overstreet, Mary Foster, Willie Mae Smith, Annette Smith, Gloria Smith who preceded him in death and Gloria Jean Smith of Tupelo, MS. James had 7 brothers, K.V. McCray, K.C. McCray, Jimmy McCray, Frank McCray, Willie Smith, who all preceded him in death, Johnny McCray, Eugene Smith, both of St. Louis, MO; one very special bond, Mrs. Ruby McCray Davis who raised him from age 5 years old to an adult, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who loved him dearly.
