Mrs. Jewel Richey was born on October 5, 1938, in Joliet to the late Arthur and Mary Bell McNair.
At a young age, Jewel migrated to Clarksdale, where she spent the remainder of her life. She received her education at McCloud School. During her working career, she was employed as a housekeeper for the Carr family, where she faithfully worked for many years.
Jewel united with Carr Chapel MB Church under the leadership of Pastor James Bennett and remained a devoted and faithful member throughout her life. She later became the last living Mother of the Church under the leadership of Pastor S.C. Collins.
Jewel was truly a “Jewel.” She loved her family, friends, and fellowship — whether it was sharing laughter while pouring salt on watermelon or shelling peas together. She was well known for her cooking before her health began to fail.
On May 15, 2026, at approximately 3:11 p.m., Jewel peacefully took her final breath and transitioned from labor to reward.
Visitation will be Friday May 29, 2026, at Royal Funeral Home from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM. The Celebration of Life will be Saturday, May 30, 2026, 2:00 PM at Union Grove MB Church. Burial will follow at Carr's Chapel Cemetery. Rev. S.C. Collins will be officiating. Rev. L.C. Tyler II is pastor.
