September 3, 1962 ~ October 1, 2020 (age 58)

Obituary

Johnny B. Hawkins, Sr., was born September 3, 1962, to Eligah Hawkins, Sr. and Margaret Hale Hawkins in Farrell, MS.  He was one (1) of ten (10) children. In his youth, Johnny B.  attended Sherard Elementary School in Sherard, MS, and a graduate of Coahoma Agricultural High School.

Johnny B. confessed a hope in Christ at an early age at Zion Traveler M.B. Church under the leadership of Rev. R.H. Hedrick. He later rededicated his life to Christ at Zion Traveler M.B. Church under the leadership of Rev. Anthony Nollie, were he served as Church Treasurer, Financial Advisor, as well as a faithful and devoted member until his death.

Johnny B., a trailblazing history maker, grew up in the impoverished and segregated Mississippi Delta and was significantly affected by the inequalities of education and job opportunities for blacks in the community, so he vowed to “Be My Own Boss!” In 1978, Johnny B. became the first African American proprietor and operator of Johnny’s Service Station, a commercial enterprise, in Lula, MS. In 1985, Johnny B. founded Hawkins Bail Bonding Company in Clarksdale, MS. In the Bonding community, Johnny B. was known as the World’s Greatest Bondsman; in 2000, he introduced his younger brother, Adrian Hawkins, Sr. to the business. His voicemail states, “We never sleep.” Johnny B. was a successful businessman who founded Hawkins Distributions in 1997; under Hawkins Distributions, he, and Brother (he affectionally called Adrian) operated Hawkins Bonding Company, Hawkins Rentals, Hawkins Gaming Systems, and Hawkins Packaging. Johnny B. was also a faithful member of Prince Hall Masonic Lodge#37.
