Johnny B. Hawkins, Sr., was born September 3, 1962, to Eligah Hawkins, Sr. and Margaret Hale Hawkins in Farrell, MS. He was one (1) of ten (10) children. In his youth, Johnny B. attended Sherard Elementary School in Sherard, MS, and a graduate of Coahoma Agricultural High School.
Johnny B. confessed a hope in Christ at an early age at Zion Traveler M.B. Church under the leadership of Rev. R.H. Hedrick. He later rededicated his life to Christ at Zion Traveler M.B. Church under the leadership of Rev. Anthony Nollie, were he served as Church Treasurer, Financial Advisor, as well as a faithful and devoted member until his death.
Johnny B., a trailblazing history maker, grew up in the impoverished and segregated Mississippi Delta and was significantly affected by the inequalities of education and job opportunities for blacks in the community, so he vowed to “Be My Own Boss!” In 1978, Johnny B. became the first African American proprietor and operator of Johnny’s Service Station, a commercial enterprise, in Lula, MS. In 1985, Johnny B. founded Hawkins Bail Bonding Company in Clarksdale, MS. In the Bonding community, Johnny B. was known as the World’s Greatest Bondsman; in 2000, he introduced his younger brother, Adrian Hawkins, Sr. to the business. His voicemail states, “We never sleep.” Johnny B. was a successful businessman who founded Hawkins Distributions in 1997; under Hawkins Distributions, he, and Brother (he affectionally called Adrian) operated Hawkins Bonding Company, Hawkins Rentals, Hawkins Gaming Systems, and Hawkins Packaging. Johnny B. was also a faithful member of Prince Hall Masonic Lodge#37.
Visitation will be Friday October 9, 2020 from 1:00 PM - 5:00 PM at Royal Funeral with the family hour to follow from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM. A memorial service will be Saturday October 10, 2020, 11:00 AM at Pleasant Valley Church, 1051 Walnut Street, Clarksdale, MS 38614 with the Rev. Lorenzo Windless officiating. Burial will follow at Zion Travelers MB Church, Farrell, MS.
Johnny B. left his earthly body surrounded by his family on October 1, 2020, at his home in Dundee, MS. He is preceded in death by his Father Eligah Hawkins, Sr., Mother Margaret Hale Hawkins, Brother Alfred” Ajax” Hawkins, Sister Gladys Hawkins Smith, and brother Eligah “Nig” Hawkins, Jr.

Hawkins, III, Jacari Garner, Daniyah Lee, Teriah Hawkins, Trinity Hawkins, Teyanna Hawkins, and Grand puppy, Hazel Marie Hawkins; four sisters, Bobbie Hawkins and Betty Hawkins of Clarksdale, MS, Katie (Larry) Johnson of Farrell, MS, Tammie (Deon) Elmore of Friars Point, MS,; four brothers, James (Sherry) Hawkins, Sr of Horn Lake, MS and Adrian (Timikia) Hawkins, Donald ( Nelia )Green, W.L. ( Lakundria) Wilkins of Clarksdale, MS; nieces and nephews he loved as his own, Katorra, Shaharri, Shalola, Yolunda, Jutavian, Jastini, Tamiya, Rickendria, Jo’Wani, Melanie, Jennifer, Kenyardis, Corie, Keeven, Adrian Jr., Deon Jr., James Jr.; uncles, James(Patricia) Hawkins, Sr and Leroy Hawkins of Memphis, TN; Eddie Hale, Richard Hale, and Jessie Hale of Chicago, IL; Elijah Hale of Clarksdale, MS; James (Diane) Hale of Los Angeles, CA; aunts Louise Johnson of Lyon, MS, and Claretha Russell of Gulfport, MS and Pearline Hale of Chicago, IL; host of great-nieces and nephews, special friends, cousins, friends, and other family members who loved him dearly.
