Katrina Lashonda Washup was born on a beautiful Tuesday morning on September 25, 1978 to the late L. T. and Beatrice Ratliff Washup in Clarksdale, MS.
Katrina Washup who was affectionately known as “Trina” by her family and friends accepted Christ at an early age and joined True Light Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Theodore Strong, Jr.
Katrina received her early education at Sherard Elementary School and Oakhurst Elementary School. She then graduated from Clarksdale High School in 1997 with honors. “Trina” then attended Coahoma Coahoma College in 1999 where she served as Valedictorian of her class. After furthering her education, “Trina” attended Delta State University where she graduated as Salutatorian in 2001.
Katrina was a hard worker and liked things in order. Although she was a very private person, she was full of life and had a hard of gold. Katrina worked at Sack and Save Grocery Store, Sally’s Beauty Supply House, Horseshoe Casino and then she started into the education field. She had a passion for children. Katrina worked at Bertha Blackburn Headstart center as a teacher and worked her way up to Center Administrator. She was transferred from Bertha Blackburn to Aaron E. Henry where she also served as Center Administrator before resigning to take care of her sister, Teresa Washup and later her mom, Beatrice Washup who preceded her in death. Katrina was currently working at Booker T. Washington Elementary School as the Headstart teacher.
“Trina” loved her family and was often referred to as the “go-to person” in her family. At one point in her career, she resigned from her job to take care of her ailing sister and mother, who both preceded her in death. Her kids Marquavious and Tymiah, her nephew James that she raised as her own and her niece Beatrice whom she raised as her own was her everything.
On May 18, 2024 at Meredith Northwest Medical Center, “Trina” gave up this earthly journey and transitioned into her heavenly home to reunite with her Mom and sister.
