Kayla Nicole Moore Obituary

Kayla Sherrell Nicole “Black Baby” Moore, 29, of Horn Lake, Mississippi, gained her heavenly wings on October 25, 2025 in Memphis, Tennessee. Though her time on earth felt far too short, Kayla’s life was full of joy, love, purpose, and unforgettable light.

Kayla was born in Clarksdale, Mississippi to the late Gwendolyn Moore and Shawn Moore. She was one of five children and a true gift to her family from the very beginning. She confessed a hope in Christ at an early age and united with Hope Fellowship Church under the leadership of Rev. James Williams, where she served faithfully and joyfully.

A 2015 graduate of Mitchell High School, Kayla was incredibly smart, loving, down-to-earth, and one of the sweetest souls one could ever meet. Her spirit touched the lives of everyone blessed to know her. Whether through her warm smile, gentle presence, or encouraging words, Kayla made people feel seen, loved, and appreciated.

She had a passion for cooking and baking, and she especially enjoyed spending meaningful time with family and friends. Kayla had a special gift for showing up for others—celebrating their victories, lifting their spirits, and loving them without limits. She was the best sister and auntie anyone could ask for, and she took pride in supporting the ones she loved. Being around Kayla meant laughter, comfort, and a sense of home.

Kayla brought joy, light, and life into every room she entered, especially among her family. Though she has transitioned from her earthly body, the love she gave will forever remain.

She is preceded in death by her beloved mother Gwendolyn Moore and brother Johnny B. Hawkins, Jr.

Kayla’s precious and sincere memories will be lovingly cherished by her fiancé, Calvin Robinson of Horn Lake, MS; her father, Shawn Moore of Clarksdale, MS; her sisters Aleisha Hawkins of Horn Lake, MS, and Tressie Hawkins (Darren) of Memphis, TN; her brother, Sean Hawkins (Sendey) of Nashville, TN; and her two favorite people whom she loved dearly, Shayla Carothers of Oxford, MS, and Mykina McClaine of Southaven, MS. She will also be remembered with love by her nieces and nephews whom she cherished as her own, along with a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

Though our hearts are heavy, we celebrate Kayla’s life with gratitude. She lived with love, gave with her whole heart, and left behind a legacy of compassion, kindness, and pure joy that will never fade.

“To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.” — 2 Corinthians 5:8
