Lela Wilson Simmons, a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on May 12, 2025, at the age of 86.
She was born on December 2, 1938, in Shaw, Mississippi, to the late Charles and Aliece Barnes. From a young age, Lela gave her life to Christ, and her faith continued to guide her throughout her life.
Lela dedicated more than 25 years to a career in nursing, where her natural compassion and nurturing spirit touched countless lives. Beyond her profession, she was a loving and supportive mother, and a generous and kind soul to all who knew her. She found joy in gardening, sewing, reading, and, most of all, spending time with her beloved family and friends.
Visitation will be Friday May 30, 2025 at Royal Funeral Home from 4:30 PM - 6:30 PM. The Celebration of Life will be Saturday, May 31, 11:00 AM, at Royal Funeral Home. The committal will follow at Heavenly Rest Cemetery. Rev. S.C. Collins will be officiating.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Charles Barnes, and granddaughters Camille A. Wilson, and Danisha Williams. She is survived by four children: Arthur Wilson (Laura) of Belton, MO, Ronald Wilson of Kansas City, MO, Brenda L. Jones (Isaac) of Warner Robins, GA, Christopher Wilson (Vanessa) of Clarksdale, MS. She is also survived by four loving sisters: Barbara Johnson of Clarksdale, MS, Murlice Kigh, Inez Wright of Fairbanks, AK, and Celestine Gaddis (Leroy) of Byram, MS, and by 10 grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
