McClain, Sr. was born October 25, 1926 in Malvina, Mississippi. He was the son of the late, Rev Willie and Estella Clark McClain. He was the grandson of the late Sam and Nellie Lindsey McClain-Newman. The vines of his life were rooted in Bolivar County where he grew up and accepted Christ at an early age at Bold Pilgrim M. B. Church. After marriage, he moved his membership to Macedonia Baptist Church, in Pace, MS where he was a devoted and faithful member, chairman deacon and Sunday school superintendent. On November 23, 1947, Lewis McClain united in marriage to Jail Williams and they became one flesh. To this union 12 children were born, Lewis Jr., Leola, Arthur B., David, Arthur Lee, Robert, Frederick, Willie, Betty, Leonard, Linda, and Milton. The steps of a man is established by the Lord, when he delights in his way. Lewis was a man of action, a man who feared the Lord, pursued righteousness, godliness, faith, love, steadfastness and gentleness. Lewis was a humble man who knew how to work and serve God, his family and mankind. He served in the United States Army from March 23, 1945 to October 30, 1946 as a Cook. He received the following decoration and citation: World War II Victory Medal and Army Occupation Medal as a Private First Class. He retired from Delta Health Center, Mound Bayou, MS in 2000 after 30 years of service. He also had a passion and a skill for farming in which he dedicated himself to 24/7 after retiring from employment. He shared his harvest with not only the family but the community. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jail Williams McClain, step-mother, Lessie Lowe McClain: brothers, Matthews and James McClain: sisters, Mary McClain, Roberta McClain McCoy, Carrie Mae McClain Donelson of St. Louis MO: step- sister, Ola Mae Quinn of Rosedale, MS: a daughter, Irene Walker of Chicago, IL; granddaughter, Latonya S. White of Dublin, GA; grandson, Frederick A. McClain, Jr. of Springfield, IL: great grandchildren, Amaiya Davis and Clarence Hickman, Jr. of Mound Bayou, MS, and Brinton Harden of Dublin, GA. The joy and pleasures of his life were dedicated to his wife, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. He also enjoyed other relatives and friends. On March 11, 2017, Our Lord and Savior came into the midst and called our beloved Lewis McClain, Sr. to eternal rest, granting him the peace and serenity he deserves. His inviting smile, love for his family and friends will live forever in our hearts. Visitation will be Saturday, March 18, 2017 from 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM at First Baptist M.B. Church, 301 North West Main Ave., Mound Bayou, MS 38762. The funeral service will follow at 1:00 PM with the Rev. Arthur B. McClain, Sr. officiating, Rev. Earl Hall, pastor. Burial will follow at the Macedonia M.B. Church Cemetery, 2 1/2 miles West of Pace, MS, Oaktree Road. McClain , Sr. (Sallie) of Dublin, GA; David McClain , Sr. (Mayola) of Springfield, IL; Robert McClain, Sr. (Kathy) of Springfield, IL; Frederick McClain , Sr. of Springfield, IL; Willie McClain of Dublin, GA; Betty Thomas (Clarence) of Dublin, GA; Leonard McClain of Stone Mountain, GA; Linda McClain of Dublin, GA; and Milton McClain (Oteka) of Springfield, IL; Brothers: Thomas McClain (Gussie) of St. Louis, MO and Jim McClain (Louise) of Memphis, TN; brother-in-law, Harvey L. McCoy of St. Louis, MO: 89 grandchildren; 170 great-grandchildren plus 2 to be born :1 in May and 1 in June ; 20 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.
