Lillie Covington Obituary

Lillie Stevenson Covington was born October 11, 1948, to the late Georgia Stevenson in Memphis, TN. Lillie accepted Christ at an early age and joined Silent Grove M.B. Church under the leadership of the late Rev. R.L. Butler. Lillie was united in holy matrimony to Lester Ray Covington on July 9, 1983.

Lillie attended school in the Clarksdale Public School system and graduated from W.A. Higgins High School in 1967. She continued her education graduating from Coahoma Jr. College in 1969 and Jackson State College in 1971. After graduation, she began her teaching career as a special education teacher in the Clarksdale Public School system. She taught in the system for 42 years, retiring on May 23, 2012.

Lillie was a member of the Clarksdale Chapter of the NAACP, Clarksdale-Coahoma County Jackson State University National Alumni Association, Inc. (CCCJSUNAA) and The Mississippi Association of Educators (MAE).

Lillie loved God, her family, teaching, anything purple, dressing (she would never be caught with her shoes and purse not matching), decorating for every holiday and anything football. She loved JSU football and any football whether high-school, college, or the NFL.

On Tuesday, November 23, 2021, at 5:17 P.M., at Delta Health-NW Regional Medical Center in Clarksdale, MS, Lillie transitioned from her earthly home to her heavenly home. Her final moments were spent with her baby sister, Lisenda, holding her hand and assuring her that all was well, and she could go when she was ready and that her siblings would be okay.

Visitation will be Friday December 3, 2021 from 4:30 PM - 6:30 PM at Royal Funeral Home.  The Celebration of Life will be Satuday December 4, 2021, 11:00 AM, at Silent Grove M.B. Church.  Pastor Charlie Jackson will be officiating. Burial will follow at Heavenly Rest Cemetery.

Lille was preceded in death by her mother Georgia Stevenson; siblings, Robert Stevenson, Barbara Howard, James Jones, Linda Stevenson, Anthony Stevenson and a stepson, Corinth Covington. She leaves to cherish her memories, her husband of 38 years, Lester Ray Covington; brother, Jeffrey (Josephine) Stevenson; sisters, Sharon (Kennedy) Campbell and Lisenda (Sidney, III) Wright; stepson, Joel (Kristine) Harris; stepdaughters, Pamela Covington and Leslie (Cordell) Washington; sisters-in-laws, Ann Coutee and Dorothy (Harvey) Hines; brother-in-law, David Lee Covington and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.
