Lillie B. Griggs, was born January 10, 1956, in Shaw, MS. to the late Sam Griggs, Jr. and Dessie Ree Griggs. She was the 7th oldest child of 14 children. She accepted Christ as her personal Savior at an early age and was baptized at Old White Stone M. B. Church, Hwy 61, Helm, MS. She peacefully departed this life at home in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania on Wednesday, February 25, 2020. Lillie was a Loving Mother, Sister, Aunt, and Friend. Her thunderous laughter was contagious. We believed she missed her calling as a comedian. She always would say the funniest jokes when you ask her a question.
Lillie, received her formal education at Leland High School, Leland, MS. in 1975. She also attended, Mississippi Valley State University for 2 years, before relocating to Harrisburg, PA. in 1980. Where she lived and worked for 10 years in retail with Marshall Department Stores and 15 years, at Harrisburg Hospital as a Nurse Assistant in Oncology (treatment of cancer and tumors) Department.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, March 14, 2020. Visitation 11:00 am – 12:00 pm. Funeral Service 12:00 P.M. at St John Missionary Baptist Church, 807 N. Broad Street, Leland, MS 38672, Rev. James Dennis, Pastor. Burial will be at the Bogue Cemetery, Leland, MS.
In addition, to her parents, she was preceded in death by five brothers: Arthur Griggs, Sam Griggs III, Jimmy W. Cooper, Calvin R. Griggs, Sr., J.C. Griggs “Big Bee”; two sisters: Josie Pearl Griggs and Dorothy Griggs-Ellison; two nieces: Alexis Anderson Griggs, and Zombia Kenyetta Raggs.
Forever cherishing hers memories, are her daughter, Sequica Charlice Griggs and sons, Kenny Griggs, Harrisburg, PA. Three (3) brothers: Willie Gene (Dorothy) Cooper, of Tallulah, LA, Jarvis Lester (Rosie) Griggs, of Horn Lake, MS, John (Wanda) Griggs, of Harrisburg, PA; Three (3) sisters: Gloria (Rev. CeDell) Raggs), Clarksdale, MS., Catherine Griggs-Watson, Southaven, MS., and Barbara Griggs (Robert) Fults, Leland, MS. Two (2) granddaughters: Sequica Chelbrice and Leila Charlice Griggs. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
