Lula Mae Williams was born to the late Mattie Bramlett and Walter Calhoun, Sr. on May 13, 1936 in Tutwiler, Mississippi. She was united in holy matrimony to the late Jimmy Williams, Sr. on September 15, 1956 and to the union six children were born.
Lula grew up in both Tutwiler and Drew, but was educated in the West District School District. Lula was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother, a godmother and friends to many. She was very family oriented and went above and beyond to ensure they were taken care of.
Lula accepted Christ at an early age and after moving to Clarksdale she joined New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Reverend F. W. Williams. She later joined Rehoboth Church of God in Christ under the late Pastor David Taylor, Sr., but her tutelage was under the late Jimmy Pate, Sr., where she served as the President of the Mother and Usher Board and member of the Pastor Aid Committee. She continued to serve under Elder Leslie B. Howard, Sr. until her health failed.
Visitation will be Friday February 26, 2021 from 1:00 PM - 5:00 PM. The Celebration of Life will be Saturday February 27, 2021, 1:30 PM, at Union Grove M.B. Church with Elder Willie Bays officiating. Rev. L.C. Tyler II is pastor. Burial will follow at McLaurin Memorial Gardens.
As the final chapter in Lula's life was written, she began a new journey on Friday, February 12, 2021 with new wings, but certainly the same wonderful soul as she quietly and peacefully accepted God's call from life to eternity. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy Sr., her stepmother, Addie Calhoun, her sons, Jimmy Jr., and Eddie, two daughters, Earline Carter and Bernetta Williams, two grands: Kenneth Jr. and Tiffany and her siblings, McKinley, Edward, Lillie, Jean Calhoun and Bobby Smith.
