Marcel Angeline Thomas

Marcel Angeline Thomas was born on January 28, 1979, to the union of Jeffrey Thomas, Sr. and Ola Minyon Thomas, in Clarksdale, Mississippi.

Marcel graduated from Clarksdale High School in 1997 where she was an exemplary student adored by all her fellow classmates.

She confessed a hope in Christ at an early age while attending First Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Juan Self.

While many knew her as Marcel or “Cel.” Marcel was a great mother, “Gigi”, sister, niece, aunt, cousin and friend. She was a loving, caring, and doting mother/” Gigi” to her three children and two grandchildren. Her life revolved around her children and grandchildren and was unmistakable by the way she cared for them. She was a caregiver/mother to her siblings after the passing of their mother Ola Minyon Thomas. Marcel had a beautiful spirit that shined brightly and her beautiful smile and calm energy left a lasting imprint to whomever she encountered. Marcel will be remembered for her laughter, friendship, kindness, generosity, and the lasting mark she left on those around her.

Marcel was employed at Popeyes in Clarksdale, Mississippi as a manager for over 20 years until she went to work at Isle of Capri Casino, in Lula, Mississippi as a Cage Supervisor. 

On January 20, 2026, God opened his arms and welcomed Marcel home into Heaven.

Visitation be will Friday, February 6, 2026 at Royal Funeral Home from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM.  The Celebration of Life will be Saturday February 7, 2026, 11:00 AM, at First Baptist MB Church, 115 Martin Luther King Blvd., Clarksdale, MS 38614.  Burial will follow at Heavenly Rest Cemetery.  

Marcel was preceded in death by her parents, Ola Minyon and Jeffrey Thomas, Sr., her twin brothers, Duane & Dewayne Powell. Grandparents: James Griffin, Sr., Lillie Thomas, Odessa (Madear) and Clarence Powell.

Marcel is survived by her loving family: Two daughters: Zukhuya and Zamia Sims; One son: Zian Sims. One granddaughter: Silveria Atkins. One grandson: Jamarrius Malone. She is also survived by Four brothers: Jeffrey Thomas, Jr., Angelo Jones, Jeremy Moton and Demetry Hughes. Four sisters: Kimwana Orsby, Lacretia Johnson-Poole (Jevon Poole), Maggie Miller and Jashonta Thomas. Her Fiancé: Joshua Stewart. Best friends: Ron Kirkwood, Sandra Coleman and Shanika Foster. A very special Godmother: Beverly Artis. A host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and countless friends and classmates.

Her memory will always be remembered and etched into the hearts of those that loved and adored her.
