Welcome to the memorial page for

Sammy Ferguson

July 27, 1935 ~ November 15, 2016 (age 81) 81 Years Old
Mr. Sammy Ferguson was born on July 27, 1935 in Helen, Mississippi to the late Elnora Carter and Johnny Ferguson. Sammy professed Christ in his early years. He was a hard worker and possessed a strong work ethic. Engaging mostly in farm work, he held many jobs in this capacity. His exuberant, high spirited personality connected him to many individuals within his community. Sammy met and married the late Thelma Lee Ferguson. To this union, were born several children, all daughters. Sammy was a man of many passions. He loved fast cars and automobiles, watching his favorite T.V. shows and most of all spending time with family and friends. Sammy was a very important element in the Ferguson family and was a supportive figure to many of his nieces and nephews. He was an avid storyteller. His stories were amusing and captivated anyone who dared to listen, leaving them with sheer joy and hysterical with laughter. He certainly had a way with words. He may not have pronounced your name correctly, yet it was still accepted because of the level of respect he was given. Some may say, Sammy talked a lot of noise or trash talk, but it was only a part of those qualities that made him unique. On the outside, he was a proud, independent and strong man, yet, on the inside, he was full of love. In his latter years and as his health began to fail, he loved to retreat to the comfort of his residence. When the opportunity presented itself and if he was feeling up to it, he wanted nothing more than to be in the company of those whom he loved. Sammy often spoke of his belief in God and how he believed the Lord would take care of him. He recognized and verbally expressed the many blessings that God had allowed him to receive. Most importantly he was a believer. Be comforted in knowing that his heart was definitely in the right place. The word of God declares that in Philippians 1:6, "He who has begun a good work in you will continue to perfect it unto the day of Jesus Christ". It was evident that Sammy was not the same man he was in his youth. Sammy's presence in the Ferguson Family is irreplaceable and family gatherings will by no means be the same without him. It's hard to fathom moving forward in his absence. He was and will forevermore be the life of the Ferguson Family. Sammy departed this life on November 15, 2016 in Shaw, Mississippi. He was preceded in death by his mother, Elnora Carter; father, Johnny Ferguson; 2 sisters, Leflora Collins and Ledora Ferguson and a daughter, Helen Ferguson. Visitation will be Friday, November 25, 2016 at Royal Funeral Home from 1pm-5pm. There will also be another visitation Saturday, November 26, 2016 from 9am-11am at Poplar Grove M.B. Church, 293 Doran St., Shaw, MS 38773. The funeral will proceed at 11am with Rev. Leroy Woods officiating. Burial will follow at the Northwest Shaw Memorial Gardens, Shaw, MS. He leaves to cherish his memory his Brother: Robert Ferguson of Gary, IN; 7 Daughters: Sammie Jean Maddie and Monica Maddie of Chicago, IL; Delia Ferguson and Pearlie Ferguson of Shaw, MS; Barbara Ferguson of Springfield, IL, Ruth Howard-Dorsey of Memphis, TN and Marilyn Ferguson of Grenada, MS. He had a total of 16 grandchildren, 9 great grand children and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Royal Funeral Home, 507 Ashton Ave., Clarksdale, MS 38614, is in charge of arrangements.
