On Sunday, May 20, 1979, Gloria Fair and Percy Dukes joyfully welcomed their beautiful daughter, Vera Shuntae Fair, into the world. Vera, known for her radiant beauty and vibrant personality, was a natural socialite who quickly captured the hearts of all who met her. She attended Friars Point Elementary and Coahoma County Jr. High School, before joining the proud maroon and white Tiger family at Coahoma Agricultural High School. Affectionately known as "Shun," Vera made history as the first underclassman to be crowned Miss Coahoma Agricultural High School, a testament to her charisma and leadership. After graduating in 1997, she pursued higher education, attending Coahoma Community College and later Mississippi Valley State University, where she majored in criminal justice. Driven and independent, Vera worked at Wal-Mart while continuing her studies, a testament to her hardworking nature. It was there that she met the love of her life, Ricky Trotter. The two were united in marriage on October 8, 2005, and together, they raised two beautiful daughters, Portia and Leila, building a life full of love and cherished memories.
Vera was a born leader, fueled by an unwavering commitment to make a lasting, positive difference in the lives of others. Her career journey began in law enforcement with the Coahoma County Sheriff’s Department, where she worked hard, excelling in a variety of roles and proving her dedication to the safety and well-being of her community. But her true passion for service ultimately led her to education, where she found her real calling: working with children. Vera's educational journey started at Coahoma County Jr/Sr High School, where she touched many lives before expanding her influence further by launching her own childcare business, Elite Prep Childcare. With a keen eye for meeting the needs of her community, she went on to serve in the Clarksdale Municipal School District in a number of roles, including Administrative Assistant and Cheer Coach. Her work ethic and dedication didn’t go unnoticed, and she eventually returned to the Coahoma County School District (CCSD) as the Middle College and Dual Enrollment Coordinator, a role she approached with exceptional seriousness and commitment. Her passion for shaping young minds didn’t stop there. Always willing to step up where there was a need, Vera embraced her new position as Cheer Coach for the Coahoma County Panthers. Over the years, while serving as a Cheer Coach, she became not only a coach but a mentor and second mother to many of the girls she worked with, offering them love, guidance, and support as if they were her own. The impact she made on these young lives will be felt for years to come. Vera’s talents were as diverse as her interests. Always striving for excellence, she also ventured into car sales at Gossett for a time, further proving her adaptability and drive. Beyond that, her entrepreneurial spirit led her to build and operate several successful businesses, including PinkPress, Pink Dianasty Bartending, Dianesty360, and Elite Prep Childcare. Throughout all of her endeavors, Vera remained a woman of boundless energy and ambition, continuously pursuing more, growing, and giving back to her community. Her legacy is one of compassion, determination, and unwavering dedication to the people she served.
Vera embraced her faith in Jesus Christ at a young age, marking a pivotal moment in her spiritual journey when she was baptized on June 19, 1988, by Rev. Horace Howard at New Prospect Missionary Baptist Church. As a dedicated member of the church, she actively engaged in the Youth Ministry and sang with the Youth Choir, both of which deeply nurtured her faith. Later in life, Vera felt a renewed calling and rededicated her life to Christ, becoming a member of GHOPE Missionary Baptist Church under the compassionate leadership of Pastor E.L. Martin.
Visitation will be Saturday December 7, 2024, from 1:00 PM - 5:00 PM at Royal Funeral Home. The Celebration of Life will be Sunday December 8, 2024, 2:00 PM, from Union Grove MB Church. The committal will be at Oakridge Cemetery. Rev. E.L. Martin will be officiating.
Vera’s earthly journey concluded on Friday, November 22, 2024, when she was called to her eternal rest, embraced by the loving arms of her Savior. Vera was preceded in death by her sister, Dewanda Obryant. She leaves to cherish her memories her parents, Percy Dukes and Gloria Fair; her beloved husband of 19 years, Ricky Trotter; two daughters, Portia Trotter and Leila Haggan; one cousin raised as a son, Howard Butler, Jr.; one adopted daughter, Raven Loften; a grandson, Sawyer Williams; two Goddaughters, Najaya Jones and Gianni Stringer and one Godson, Jace Christian Gooden, two very close friends that became family, Ralph Scott and Crystal Gooden along with a host of uncles, aunts, cousins, other family members and many friends.
