On Tuesday, June 14, 2022, Verle Mae Holden, 92, of Clarksdale, Mississippi, went to be with the Joy of her Life at Delta Health System-Northwest Regional Medical Center. She was born on December 1, 1929, in Shelby, Mississippi to the late Reverend L. A. and Alberta Holden.
She was educated in the Clarksdale Schools. Aunt Verle, (as she was affectionately known), was one of the Founding Members of New Centennial M. B. Church under the leadership of Pastor J. A. Sills. She was a faithful and active member until her health failed.
Verle was a domestic worker employed by the Kincade Family and the Phelps Family for many, many years.
A memorial service will be held on July 2, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at the Royal Funeral Home Chapel, 507 Ashton Avenue, Clarksdale, Mississippi with Pastor J. A. Sills officiating.
She leaves to cherish her memories her sons Aaron Holden, Clarksdale, MS; Larry (Travenia) Holden, Lebanon, TN; Sister and dutiful caregiver, Ruby Holden, Clarksdale, MS; Sister, Ethel Holden Jennings, Atlanta, GA; Special daughters and caregivers Jeanette Franklin, Clarksdale, MS; Catrise Harper, Clarksdale, MS; 14 nieces and nephews, 9 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, many cousins and friends who loved her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Reverend L. A., and Alberta Holden, 4 sisters, Cleotha Holden Strong, Arlington Holden, Lucille Holden Shaw, and Frankie Griffin and 2 brothers, Felix Michael Holden and James A. “Jimmy” Smith.
