Willie Stewart Obituary

For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:

II Timothy 4: 6-7

Willie Mae Stewart was born August 6, 1935 in Jonestown, MS to the late Hunter and Alma Harris.  She confessed hope in Christ at an early age and became a member of St. Paul M.B. Church in Jonestown, MS under the leadership of the late Rev. Galloway.  She later joined New Jerusalem M.B. Church in Clarksdale, MS under the leadership of Pastor J.B. Woods where she remained until joining the Seventh Day Pentecostal Church under the leadership of the late Bishop Louis Stewart Sr.

Willie Mae was united in holy matrimony on September 7, 1968 to Bishop Louis Stewart.  To this union two children were born, Louis Stewart Jr. and Lindy Stewart, who went to her heavenly home seven days after the passing of her mother.  Willie Mae departed this life on February 22, 2022 at Baptist Desoto Hospital in Southaven, MS.  She worked as a seamstress for White Rose Cleaners.  Sewing was a gift from God for her.  Willie Mae worked faithfully and let us praise God that she has found a resting place.  A beloved soldier has departed from this earth to become embraced in “A city which both foundations, whose builder and maker is God,”.  So, Willie Mae, our dear one, is gone on before us.  We sorrow because we shall miss her kind smile, her helpful ways, and her encouraging spirit.  Instead of being cast down by sadness, we shall rejoice and thank God for a life which leaves behind it a radiance of goodness and peace.

Visitation will be an hour prior to the service at Union Grove MB Church, 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM.  Burial will follow at Shady Grove Cemetery, Lambert, MS, 10:00 AM on Monday March 14, 2022.

Willie Mae was preceded in death by fifteen siblings Allen Harris, L.C. Harris, Gladys Williams, Troy Harris, Jessie Harris, Clara Harris, John Harris, Bobbie Blue, Artie Frazier, Andrew Harris, Elbert Harris, W.L. Harris, Simon Harris, Evelyn Greer, and Lillie Young.

Willie Mae leaves to cherish her memories, one devoted son, Minister Louis Stewart Jr. of Clarksdale, MS; three loving grandchildren Isaiah, Mary, and Ezekiel Stewart all of Clarksdale, MS; three sisters Shirley Tyler if Cleveland, MS, Elizabeth Harris and Blanche Gardener of Riverdale, IL; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, Godchildren, sister and brother in-laws.

Willie Mae was a diehard fan and big supporter of gospel quartet singing.  Some of her favorite groups were The Tyler Family, John and the Gospel Ten, Sis. Duncan and the Rosettes, The Morris Project, Thomas Ellison and the Singing Stars, The Pilgrim Jubilees, The Sons of Wonder, and her absolute favorites, Bro. Ned Johnson and the Jonestown Crusaders, and her very own children, Showtime and the Stewart Family.  She also loved listening to gospel music on the radio, tuning in every Thursday evening with Bro. Johnny Kinard and listening to the McCalls on Sundays.

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for thou art with me; they God and thy staff they comfort me.

Psalms 23:4
